Randy is a life-long potter and educator from Texas and Louisiana. He creates functional pottery, as well as large decorative vessels, as well as clay sculpture. His creations are images of nature, animals, and fish, and he is a master on the potter’s wheel. Randy will be demonstrating trash can raku firing, actually firing pots on the premises.

The east Texas studio in Alba is where Cindy is busy creating pottery, ranging from functional wheel-thrown stoneware to low-fired horsehair applied raku pottery vases and bowls. When horsehair is added during the firing process the horsehair creates a beautiful contrasting design as it is burned into the clay for a lovely decorative accent. First year for our local Lily, and first generation Taiwanese immigrant. She loves to collect clay, sand, and pine needles from here in East Texas for her ceramics. Different slips, clay bodies, and glazes with different firing temps, result in many possibilities with each piece. Organic forms which celebrate life and connections and relationships of nature with people.

The powdery surfaces and intense colors of Les Mitchell’s raku pottery are standouts in his booth of ceramics that range from simply lovely, to stoneware that is practical and whimsical. The raku works are inserted in Mitchell’s plentiful selection of usable homewares, such as chip and dip sets, platters, plates and pitchers. Prices range from $5 to $350.

Ann’s functional art pottery is made of earthenware (red clay), hand-built by pinching coils and slab rolling, draping and manipulating the medium to desired shapes then hand painting it with a soft glaze of colors to provide food safe vessels. Her first year to EAF and a local artist, Merrie’s work is hand built and wheel thrown functional ceramics. She uses a variety of clays with clean lines and vivid pops of color, creating forms and jewelry, for comfort when held, and intended for daily use or wear. David’s studio is in Rusk, Texas and he has been a studio potter since the 70’s. Wood-fired, high fired-stoneware, wheel thrown and extruded shapes lend themselves to colorful glazes and take on individual personality in his completely functional work. David has been coming to the Edom Art Festival for many years and has many collectors of his work. It is also fun visiting his studio in an old farmhouse to see where the magic happens. Dripping Springs is honored to have a master weaver in residence. Handweaver, Patricia Day uses only natural fibers and weaves a variety of clothing that fits a wide range of sizes. Audrey Legatowicz weaves what she considers functional fiber creations that she promotes as hand towels or shawls. Her booth is a vibrant display of colors and textures, filled with purses, evening bags, cross body bags, shawls, ponchos, ruanas. She uses natural fibers which often incorporate her hand-spun wool and mohair yarn with an occasional bead for sparkle. Her prices range from $20 – $300.

Elizabeth crosses over in both the fiber and mixed media category. She is from Tyler, and all of her pine needles collected for her extraordinary baskets are collected from the Azalea and Brick Street districts in town. Kandi is very popular at the Edom Art Festival for her incredible hand-embroidered, beaded jewelry. Her beaded purses, bracelets, and cuffs have a nostalgic quality and walking into her booth you are almost transported to another time. It truly is a bohemian beaderie. Each Barry Perez’ pieces of jewelry is hand-fabricated using 18K gold and sterling silver embedded or surrounding a rainbow of precious and semi-precious gems and minerals. This Elgin-based jeweler creates ample surface texture and by incorporating a variety of metals allows an animated swirl of movement. His prices range from $45 to $1800.

“I love it when a person hears a piece speak to them. It’s like they found an old friend they didn’t know they had, and there is joy and comfort when that happens”. Rick strives to blur the lines between jewelry and sculpture through manipulation of materials and forms. He is from Arlington, and it is his first year showing in Edom.

Watercolorist David Tripp records the dwindling structures of the last century. Every abandoned service station, general store, movie theater and crumbling private residence leaves this artist with a feeling of profound loss, but at the same time an exhilarating presence.
